1. Which photographers have influenced your work?
I have been influenced by many of the greats! I am student of photographers such as Monte Zucker, Bill McIntosh, Don Blair, and Phillip Charis. I have also been heavily influenced by others through books such as Ernst Hass, Minor White, Horst P. Horst, Hurrell, and Cecil Beaton.
2. What is the one thing about the photography business that you wish you had learned earlier in your career
Looking back I wish I had organized my negatives, digital files and more importantly data base of customers for easy access.
3. What advice would you give someone thinking about starting a career in photography?
Learn the basics in posing and lighting and learn the basics in business.
4. Where do you get your inspiration for photography? How do you generate fresh ideas?
? I am always looking at magazines, visiting the art museums and browsing the internet and forums for new ideas. Usually some old classic ideas look fresh today... what's old is new.
5. What is your most memorable photo or photo shoot that you have done?
Twenty years ago I scaled a large tractor to the top bucket and made an image in Georgetown that I call Jive at Five. It was made with grainy film and I look at every day. And just recently we worked in the Philippines at sunset on a glorious beach. The images are resonating with me every day.
6. What other piece of equipment (besides a camera or a computer) do you always have on a shoot?
I am a pack horse and bring, backgrounds, stools, tables, five lights with stands and softboxes, tripods. The car is always brimming to the top.
7. If you could be in any other profession than photography, what would you like to be?
Painter to create large art murals. I am currently blending that passion with my photography today.
8. Please name five important accessories you always carry with you on a shoot?
I take back ups on everything. I always use silver reflectors, Expo-Disk (for white balance) Card wallet full of 8 gig Delkin Cards, battery operated strobes, with Free-Wire sending units, Tripod and a few stands to accommodate the flashes and reflectors.
