1. Which photographers have influenced your work?
Arnold Newman, Karsh and Nadar.
2. What is the one thing about the photography business that you wish you had learned earlier in your career
The Business part, how a photographer needs to be personally entrepreneurial.
3. What advice would you give someone thinking about starting a career in photography?
Find a personal project of your own and develop it. Don't wait for assignments. Just take your own picture but in a very specific project. Over time the work will build debth.
4. Where do you get your inspiration for photography? How do you generate fresh ideas?
David Hockney has a wonderful quote "Inspiration, She does not visit the lazy!" I go out and start working, let the ideas catch up.
5. What is your most memorable photo or photo shoot that you have done?
Clint Esatwood, David Hockney, Muhamed Ali's photographer Howard Bingham, BB King and of course Tina Turner. And not to be left out...The Amalfi Coast!
6. What other piece of equipment (besides a camera or a computer) do you always have on a shoot?
When I am out shooting on my own there is a green military type field jacket that was a gift from photographer Alan Berliner. It is my lucky jacket, when I wear it I always get good pictures! Go figure!
7. Please name five important accessories you always carry with you on a shoot?
On digital shoots I have 2 small hard drives for back up, extra cables of various kinds, a small Leica point and shoot (Digilux 3) a light meter and a small flash light.
8. If you could be in any other profession than photography, what would you like to be?
A writer or film director.
