Photograher Spotlight Questionnaire

1. Which photographers have influenced your work?

Josef Sudek, Ernst Haas, Jay Maisel, Wynn Bullock, Minor White, Paul Caponigro.

2. What is the one thing about the photography business that you wish you had learned earlier in your career

That when someone says Nothing personal, it's just business means to duck. People who believe that are not people you want to do business with. Business is personal.

3. What advice would you give someone thinking about starting a career in photography?

Consider a career in plumbing or welding. Photography is truly for those people who cannot do anything else. It has to be in your blood, it is not a career for the fait of heart.

4. Where do you get your inspiration for photography? How do you generate fresh ideas?

Go for a walk and turn off the cell phone, if you slow down enough there is more to shoot than one set of eyes can see.

5. What is your most memorable photo or photo shoot that you have done?

Burma. I was truly taken by my pictures.

6. What other piece of equipment (besides a camera or a computer) do you always have on a shoot?

A Hoodman camera loupe.

7. Please name five important accessories you always carry with you on a shoot?

70-210mm Dseries Nikkor lens, 100 Gig Fortress hard drive, Really Right Stuff BH-55 Ball head (with all cameras having the L bracket), Greytag Macbeth Black/Grey/White card, X-rite EyeOne Display II Monitor Calibrator

8. If you could be in any other profession than photography, what would you like to be?

There isn't one.
