USB 3.0 is 10 times faster than USB 2.0, and everyone wants files to transfer faster and save time, so why not move on to USB 3.0???
The answer is a little more complicated than that. It involves timing, compatibility and cost issues.

Many factors affect the speed that your data transfers, and most people never saw 480Mb/s (60MB/s) out of their USB 2.0 hosts. USB 3.0 will likely not deliver the fast “theoretical” speeds they promise. Hey, we don’t always get everything we want! Improved bus architecture and a new feature called “stream protocol” and a lot of other nerdy things you don’t need to worry about along with file size and host speed are going to affect your true speed. Basically you can rest assured of at least a 3X speed increase, which as they say “ain’t bad”. Don’t set your sights on a 10X improvement and you won’t be disappointed.
Considering the cost increase of USB 3.0 (some peripherals are twice the price) you may find that USB 2.0 is just fine for right now. Like all new and hot items, you know the prices are going to come down. If however you just can’t wait, there are enough 3.0 devices and hosts on the market at this point that you can rest assured most of the bugs have been worked out, and you won’t get that buyer’s remorse of buying the first new car on the lot that turns out to be a lemon. USB 3.0 after a long delay (it was introduced in 2008!) is finally starting to show up in laptops and cameras and peripherals, and it will only become more so in the second half of 2012. They say that 3.0 may be the last version of USB, for a number of time to market reasons, but that alas is a topic for another day. For now, USB 3.0 is safe, it delivers much of what it promises (wish we could all say that!) and it is here today!

Yes I can!!! There is finally a quality USB 3.0 Universal card reader on the market. I have been looking for months for a compact flash card reader and it has finally arrived. I ordered it as soon as it became available. As a photographer that shoots RAW files that are on an average of 23 megs a picture I needed something that would upload my photos quicker then then the fire wire 400 card reader I have been using. Often my 32 gig card is near full and it would take an hour or more to download the photos. Not with this reader and USB 3.0. It was something like 20 minutes or so. It was fast. I am extremely happy with this card. :)

I was waiting for a quality USB 3 reader for some time. I had seen some on the internet from companies I never heard of so I passed on those. When Delkin came out with theirs, I bought it right away. I then did a little test to see the speed difference when downloading using different card readers. The card readers I used were a Sandisk 12 in 1 reader. That was the first reader I owned. Then I used a Lexar Professional UDMA reader and finally the Delkin USB 3 reader. I took 529 RAW pictures totaling about 11.3 GB on a 600X 32 GB card. The results are as follows:
Sandisk 12 in 1 reader - 11min. 4sec.
Lexar Professional UDMA - 6min. 54sec.
Delkin USB 3 - 3min. 5sec.
If you want that speed it is really up to you, but if you take a lot of pictures and want to see them NOW, then GET THIS READER. If you have a lot of patience and can do something else while downloading your pictures then stick with your old reader. Remember you must have a USB 3 port on your computer and you must use a fast card to see the speed advantages. I highly recommend this reader.

We’re intent on seeing the differences that USB3 can make, so we asked Delkin to send their USB 3.0 Universal Reader than handles well over a dozen flash card formats. Theoretically, we should see transfer speeds up to 5Gbps (about 10X USB2) but flash read/write speeds don’t always go that high. We can tell you that big transfers take almost no time at all; it’s clear to us that the connection to the PC is no longer the bottleneck. Bottom line: the Delkin USB3 Universal Reader can get any task involving transfers among cards & drives done faster.

This puts my built-in SD Card reader to shame, as well as out-performing all my memory cards including the CombatFlash I usually use for ReadyBoost.
My Computer was made before 2009 with a gen 1 expressCard controler so my USB-3 ExpressCard gives me 2.4 Gigabits per sec. (300 MegaBytes per sec.) which is the bus speed limit for SDHC Cards.
Now if someone would make me a SSD Rechargable Card Reader this fast in USB-3 to replace the old USB-2 HDD I have I'd love it.
